Why did you choose Salvage Sister – to learn hands-on skills?
I chose Salvage Sister because it looked like a place where you not only learn new skills, but also have a lot of fun! I did a few other courses at other places too during the same time, but Salvage Sister is who I came back to time and time again :)
Did you have hands-on Skills before SS?
I’ve always loved crafts, sewing, drawing etc, and had done woodworking at school (which obviously is a LONG time ago!). But I’d never properly used power tools, if you don’t count what’s needed for assembling IKEA furniture!
Workshops joined?
I attended Powertools for beginners part 1 & part 2, lamp-making, wooden letter making and wooden arts & crafts. So almost all of them!
What have you gained from Salvage Sister workshops?
I have so many fun memories from the workshops, they are a really great day out! But perhaps most importantly, I’ve gained the confidence to use powertools for lots of different projects. The tools might seem a little intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of using them, it’s fantastic to see how much you can do.
What do you do now creatively? How has life changed since joining Salvage Sister workshops?
The Salvage Sister workshops were a key factor in my decision to change careers, I was working in HR at Google. Now I am studying joinery full-time, and this past autumn I set up my own creative business. I now make furniture and art (mainly using plywood), and am excited to see what the future brings!
