Come to Brighton for a Workshop with a difference,
This workshop is Freestyle!
You bring your own item, or idea to work on during this 6 hour Freestyle Workshop class. You will work on your own concept or design, with me on hand to teach, advise and help you make your dream a reality. You can bring your own item to upcycle, or find wood at MidSussex wood Recycling to build your masterpiece. This workshop is totally different from any of my other classes - it is all about you & your ideas, concepts and designs. It is the perfect follow-on class if you really enjoyed Pallet Furniture & now want to further your knowledge & skills.Q - How is your Freestyle Workshop different to the Pallet Furniture Workshop?
A - FREEDOM!! Unlike my Pallet Furniture Workshop , you are not restricted to using pallets & pallet wood for your build - you can literally find what you like & build with it. (In this class we don't focus on methods of dismantling, reconfiguring & making with pallets.) We start the class by learning to use the general tools that you will all use during the day, before each of you focus on on the tools and processes that apply to your own build. The MidSussex timber yard is absolutely full of interesting things, from scaffold boards, joists, doors, floorboards, planks, blocks, ply - you name it. It's all reclaimed, it's all waiting to be reused & start a new life with you! You can also choose more processes for joining than my pallet furniture workshop, like biscuits and wooden dowels. (If you would like to peruse the timber yard before your class - the site is open for customers Sunday to Friday, find all the details about MidSussex Wood recycling by clicking here. Please be aware that if you intend to use a great deal of material, or one that is expensive/rare - there may be a materials surcharge. We can go through options and work this out for you if you have an idea of what you want to make, what material you want to use & the approximate size of the project. ) This class is great for making scaffold board benches, small tables etc, small shelving units etc. You could even make some kitchen cupboard doors, or a Wooden A board for your business - the options are endless. Bear in mind however, we have 6 hours - so for larger, or more complex projects you may need more than one session - I can offer discounts for multiple Freestyle classes for the same person. More details as we release new dates, contact me here with your requirements. When you book the class simply email me your idea, I will advise you in the lead up to the class of what you might need to bring & the tools & equipment I can bring for use during the class. Please note that because the workshop is full of wood, it is not compatible with processes that require fire or very hot temperatures like welding or forging - this class is mainly for upcycling and woodwork projects. (Although I will be running metalwork & forging classes soon!) If you are unsure of whether your project is right for the class feel free to contact me via the 'Get in touch' tab. PLEASE do not book this class to do something that is already listed as a complete workshop in my store, this workshop is for unique things that you cannot find in my other workshop classes. Why not check out our amazing 5 star TRipAdvisor reviews for all our workshops? Learn the skills needed to deconstruct pallets,
before making your own pallet planter & taking it home on the day!
The Salvage Sister taught Kirsty Allsopp how to make this pallet planter on stage in front of 200 people at The Handmade Fair - if she can do it, so can you! During this 5 hour Pallet Planter Workshop you will learn the skills needed to create your very own colourful pallet planter, including where to look for pallets, which ones work best, and how to take apart pallets and cut down ready to reconfigure into a beautiful solid wood planter. The Salvage Sister will guide you through the build, teaching you how to use all the power tools involved and what lasting fixings to use in the garden environment. When you've built your own pallet planter you will have the option to make it into a strawberry trough and leave some gaps in the sides for the strawberries to hang through, or fill the sides with pallet planks. (You can line your planter with a hessian sack when you get home to stop earth falling through the gaps until the roots of your bounty hold it all together) Once you’ve learnt these skills you will be able to repeat this process at home to make as many troughs & planters as you like in the future - saving you loads of cash, not to mention time & stress!New Dates for all Workshops coming soon,

Come to Brighton and make a beautiful, wooden silhouette artwork from reclaimed wood & customise it to your own style. During this 5 hour workshop you will have the freedom to design your own simple silhouette artwork & learn the skills needed to create it from reclaimed wood. You can either find a vector design online and I will show you how to replicate it onto wood, or you can bring a printed photo, or even freestyle your design & draw it by hand it's to you. You will choose the colour scheme for the background of your artwork too, that way you can tailor it to fit with your decor & style. Your design can be absolutely anything you can think of, from your pet dog to a boat, maybe you would like to create a design from nature such a tree, mountains or a snowflake? Choose a font and a word to make into a wooden artwork - it really is totally up to you. Come away from this class with something totally unique that you have made yourself & the skills to replicate the build at home as many times as you like. Learn to use a variety of different powertools while you create your masterpiece - from sliding mitre chop saws to jigsaws, pin guns and scroll saws! (See tools list below.) We finish off this build by framing the artwork ready to hang on your wall or place on a shelf at home - to frame we will learn to cut mitres and join them which is another useful skill that will come in handy for a variety of other tasks later in crafting! This is for you if you are artistic, creative, you want to learn how to use powertools, or if you live far away and don't have the space to take a larger item home.
