Creative Metalwork & Welding Course

During this workshop you will learn a variety of creative metalworking processes for cutting, forming & welding metal.

The course is guided by your inspiration & goals – with only 2 students per session you can choose which area of creative metalwork you’d like to study & practice.

Maybe you want an introduction to all the metalworking machines I use to create metal art?

Or maybe you just want to focus on a particular type of welding, use a plasma cutter for the first time, or start forging over an anvil!

The world is your oyster with a workshop full of tools, machines & myself at your disposal.

I have MIG, TIG, & stick/arc welding machines available.

You will learn the basics of welding, & be able to try all types, or – choose one particular area to focus on. I will advise which processes are best for the type of metalworking you want to create.

Or, you can just have a go & see where it takes you.

Book multiple sessions to really build on your skills and practice, practice practice! the areas you’re most interested in. (See my multi booking discount in ‘Workshop Details’ tab.)

This metalworking course is led by you – what do you want to achieve?!

My metalworking courses are completely different to any of my other classes – with a maximum of only 2 students per class, meaning you both have me all to yourself & can practice your chosen skills until your hear is content. (You may even be solo during your class, depending on how bookings work out.)

The Workshop Details

My Creative Metal Workshops are different from any of my other courses!

During this 3 hour session you have a range of metalworking tools & machines to learn.

From MIG, TIG & stick welders to plasma cutters, angle grinders, heating rigs, sand blasters & loads more!

I’ll kit you out in PPE & make sure you’re safe before teaching you how to use the machines, and letting you practice your little heart out.

I’ll be there to guide you & help you hone the skills you are most interested in.

This course is for anyone who would love to start using creative metalworking processes and welding – but are not sure where to start.

If you’re looking for a learning experience that is tailored to your needs & guided by your goals – this is for you.

You can come for one session, to get a taste for metalworking & see what all the fuss is about…

Or you can book multiple sessions to practice a particular process, or variety of processes & start making some small metalwork items to take home!

LOCATION

My Creative Metalwork & Welding Course is held in my own private metal studio.

The studio location is in Brighton, BN2.

Only students who enrol in this course will be sent the address details in the week leading up to their booking.

For your info;

On street parking is available, usually for free. (Unless it is an Amex match day, but I have guests passes.)

The closest bus stops offer 49 route.

The nearest train stations are Falmer or Moulsecoomb. Taxis are readily available in the area.

What is Achievable?!

My ‘Creative Metalworking & Welding’ sessions and ’Scrap Metal Sculpture Workshops‘ are in my own private metalworking studio in Brighton BN2.

And unlike my usual workshops, the sessions will have a max of 2 students at a time.

‘Creative Metalworking & Welding’ sessions are 3 hour blocks.

Your first session would be an introduction to the workshop, learning what the tools & machines are & practicing with them – so you have a good understanding of what you might be able to achieve with everything available.

Once you’ve had a go, you could say “right, I want to spend the rest of the session practicing TIG welding”, or whatever has taken your fancy!

But – If you’re not interested in plasma cutting metals, heating & bending metal, etc, but you are interested in welding (for instance) – you could specify:

‘I just want to learn how to MIG weld, or TIG weld, or Stick weld’,

or

‘I want to practice all 3 types of welding, & learn about when & why you would use them.’

or

‘I want to know how to precisely measure, mark, cut, prep & weld steel to make metal furniture’.

For the latter -I’d teach you how to mark up your metal cut line, how to use the metal chopsaw to cut precisely, how to grind & clean your metal, I’ll teach you about heat distortion, cleaning containments & get you practicing MIG & TIG. (Which would be best for this.)

You will need to practice welding before being able to weld something well, & it look how you want it to look.

We can discuss what you would like to achieve in person at your first session – but you won’t have time to learn how to weld, prep everything & weld something in a 3 hour session!!

(I recently had a student ask me if they could learn how to weld & make an item of furniture in a 3 hour session & this simply won’t happen! If it was that easy to weld no one would need us to teach them!)

The knowledge & skills take time to learn, and prepping your metal takes time. Even getting to know different types & stocks of metals, & what is possible with them takes time.

Plus each person is different.

I really want these sessions to be guided by what you want to learn, and be enjoyable so you’re not putting tonnes of pressure on yourself from the get go!

I advise coming for a 3 hour session workshop induction – or specified welding session and see what you like, then you’ll have a much better understanding of which direction to take & what is possible.

You don’t need any prior knowledge, I’ll teach you everything you need to know, then it’s just practice, practice, practice while staying safe!

scrap metal sculpture workshop consists of learning how to use the metal chopsaw, plasma cutter, oxy-propane, angle grinders & MIG welders in the morning…

And then using the skills learnt to make a small wall-hung or free-standing sculpture from scrap metals to take home in the afternoon.

(It is artwork-orientated, rather than precise furniture making as that takes a lot longer!)

These items are small – you need to be able to carry it home & have time to complete it!

You will be MIG welding your sculpture together, (unless you are a proficient TIG welder already. As this takes time to master!)

My scrap metal sculpture workshop is more of a one day creative experience, rather than sessions you can bolt together on a weekly basis & hone skills. Although students are welcome to join multiple times.

The space is inspiring, the tools are brilliant, and Charis is an absolute star — knowledgeable, encouraging, and full of energy. I got hands‑on with welding and plasma cutting, and she guided me through every step with patience and humour. I left buzzing with confidence and creativity.
